The true idiom is to "fall by the wayside" which means they fail to finish an activity or stop doing it, making it, or using it.
I guess this is one of those idioms that has truly fallen by the wayside!

The true idiom is to "fall by the wayside" which means they fail to finish an activity or stop doing it, making it, or using it.
